Privacy Policy

Scint, a brief-news reader that presents news as short, swipeable cards and links to the original publisher. Last updated: 11 September 2026.

We collect as little as possible: no accounts, no tracking, no advertising, and no personal data that identifies you. Your saved stories, cache and reading preferences stay on your own device.

Information stored on your device

Scint keeps the following locally on your device to make the app work and to personalise your feed. It is not transmitted to us:

  • Saved (bookmarked) articles.
  • Cached article data, so the app loads quickly and works offline.
  • A category preference score based on the categories you swipe through most.

You can delete all of it at any time by removing your saved articles in the app or by uninstalling Scint.

Information we process

To deliver the news feed, the app requests the category you are viewing from our backend (appwrite.gursimran.nl). Our servers may transiently process standard technical data such as your IP address to serve the request and keep the service reliable. We do not use this data to identify you, build a profile, or advertise to you.

Third-party services

News publishers. Article images load directly from the publisher's servers on your device, so the publisher can see your IP address and basic request data. Images are shown only as a preview with attribution and a link to the original article; we do not host or redistribute them. When you tap "Read", the article opens in your browser and is subject to that publisher's privacy policy.

App Store. If you install Scint from the App Store, Apple processes the download under its own privacy policy.

What we do not do

  • We do not collect your name, email, or contacts.
  • We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not require an account to use Scint.

Children

Scint is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. News content is sourced from third parties and may not be suitable for all ages.

Data retention and your choices

On-device data remains until you delete it or uninstall the app. Server-side request logs, if kept, are retained only as long as needed for security and reliability. To ask a question or to request deletion of any data associated with you, contact us using the details below.

Your rights (GDPR)

Because we do not store personal data that identifies you, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct, or delete. If you believe we have processed personal data about you anyway, contact us at the address below and we will resolve it. Scint is operated from the Netherlands.

Content attribution

Headlines, summaries and images shown in Scint belong to their respective publishers and are attributed to the source shown on each card. Imagery is loaded directly from the publisher and displayed only as a preview with a link back to the original article; Scint does not claim ownership of third-party content. Publishers who would like their imagery excluded can contact us using the details below.

Changes

If the app ever starts collecting data, this policy will be updated here before that version ships.
